NOISE | The Reed's 1970s Soundtrack Map to L.A.

Traveling doesn't always involve physical movement. Over the past two weeks I put together a 15-track 1970s L.A. playlist and guide. How else could we tackle such a sprawling city? From Tom Petty to Donna Summer this hour of music will transport you—or maybe at least entertain you. Check it out >> right here!

NOISE | Tom Petty + Stevie Nicks

I'm wondering if there is a more perfect male-female duet in the annals of rock than Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks. They really meld. In 1981 they released two songs together, the Grammy-winning chart topper Stop Draggin' My Heart Around on Stevie's debut solo album and Insider, a deep cut on Petty's fourth album, Hard Promises. Both so good, but I think I'd have to pick Insiderif I had to take just...

NOISE | The Weight

Looking to listen to holiday music today, but already "fatigued" from the classic tunes (uh oh), I wanted something not totally off topic, but also not anything you'd here in any retail establishment in America right now. The Weightby The Band makes the perfect fake Christmas song.

Photo by Autumn de Wilde via NPR.

I'm such a fan of Jenny Lewis, so it's no surprise this isn't the first time she's been on the blog, but her new album The Voyager comes out next Tuesday, but exclusively available for a first listen on NPR; Ann Powers wrote up the album so perfectly for that I have nothing really to add except that it's crazy good.  Her video for Just One Of The Guys, a...

NOISE | Deep Below Heaven

I'm such a fan of folk singer Malaena Cadiz. Her second album, Deep Below Heaven, dropped last week and she's hitting the road. I'll be seeing her play in downtown LA at Alchemy Works on June 13th. Cadiz's husband, Mikael Kennedy, created a photo collection and zineto accompany the album; Cadiz wrote songs in their home in NYC, while Kennedy wandered the country to shoot some of tis most remote...

I've got a feeling First Aid Kit's new album Stay Gold (out June 10) is going to be my summer record.
